So oppo, I need your collective knowledge. I'm planning on making a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and I can't seem to find any info on the dimensions of the lines on the road (if it's even called that). I'm looking for length and width of the lines, and the distance between two dashes for passing. USA dimensions please. Thanks!

I'm on #4, but it's only half-caf, so technically #2.

Thanks! I'll study them carefully!

The white lines on the highway are 10 ft long, with 30 ft between each line. Not sure how wide they are. Googling....

10 ft long....that doesn't sound right. They look to be about 2 to 3 ft long.

The standed width is 4 inches.

Dang...but this is good to know though. I have to decide on either a true 1:1 scale, or what people think they see. hmmm...

Is the 4" 1:1 scale? Im not sure if I can scale that down then, :/.

It probably wouldn't be that important to make it truly to scale, but I appreciate your attention to that detail. If you figure that the line is 10 ft and the space is 30 ft, you could choose any length you want but maintain a 3:1 ratio.

More than you will need to know about lane stripes is in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, published by the Federal Highway Administration; there are several links below. Read pages 347 et. seq. in the .pdf for information on lane stripes. The width of state road lanes and Interstate highway lanes in Florida is typically 12 feet between centerlines of parallel lane stripes, but there are exceptions. Here I'm thinking of Hillsborough Avenue in Tampa, where the lanes are only about 10-1/2 to 11 feet wide, which made driving there exciting forty years ago when every other car on the road was what Detroit used to call "full-size" and we now call "aircraft carriers."

Thanks. I absolutely love miniatures, :). I have a scale calculator that helps me figure out the size differences. Each dash should probably be about ~2" long. I know road widths in 1:1 is 12', scaled is ~2.25".
You've been a tremendous help, thanks again!

Yeah, I was going to go with a 12" road width. It seems the most common. Thanks for the info!

My pleasure! This sort of thing excites my former drafting self. I never did any professional drafting, but I've always had a love of lines and measurements. Post some pics! I'd like to see it.

Well the link up top is what I have currently. And I need to take dimensions of what "free space" I have left, anything south of the car line. I believe I can fit a two lane road there, but the real question is, what else can fit in there?
I'll be keeping track of my progress too. I don't think anyone on lald has done anything like this yet, so it'll be interesting. :)
